Abstract:

Fueling the future with low-carbon fuels is key to mitigating climate change, especially in the Aviation sector, which is difficult to electrify. As a result, the petroleum industry is developing alternative fuel sources, including biofuels, synthetic fuels, and hydrogen. Analyzing alternative fuels for viability presents analytical challenges. SFC-FID-MSD is a useful tool for characterization to ensure performance comparable to that of traditional petroleum fuels. This is particularly relevant for determining olefin and oxygenate content. An analytical method was developed and will be presented using SFC-FID-MSD. This method demonstrates the separation and quantification of olefin and oxygenate content in alternative fuels.
