Ryan Rodgers, Chemist
National High Magnetic Field Laboratory
Ryan P. Rodgers received a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Florida in 1995, and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry under Dr. Alan G. Marshall from Florida State University in 1999. Following a postdoctoral appointment in aerosol mass spectrometry at Oak Ridge National Laboratory under the direction of Dr. J. Michael Ramsey, he joined the Ion Cyclotron Resonance Program at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory as a Research Faculty I. He is currently the facility’s Deputy Director, in charge of environmental, petrochemical, and forensic applications of FT-ICR mass spectrometry at the MagLab, is the Director of the Future Fuels Institute, an FSU Distinguished University Scholar, and a past Associate Editor of Energy and Fuels. He holds an International Chair position as a Professor of Chemistry in Energy and Environmental Science at the University of Pau, France and is a member of the Joint International Laboratory, iC2MC, along with TotalEnergies, University of Pau, and the University of Rouen.

Scott is the Technical Director for Clean Fuels Alliance America, the trade association representing biodiesel, renewable diesel, and sustainable aviation fuel stakeholders within North America. Scott leads the advancement of core member services for technical, quality assurance and operations support issues. He provides key support for technical aspects needed by renewable fuel stakeholders to effectively position the industry, educates key decision makers, and helps build industry credibility; along with overseeing the BQ-9000 quality programs. In addition to coordinating the OEM and fuel quality programs, he also provides leadership for the ASTM standards’ efforts for fuels and lubricants, and coordination of other international fuel activities as Chairman of the ASTM D02 Committee, while also serving on their Board of Directors.

2021 - Tuesday's Keynote - Dr. Kevin Schug
Professor Chemistry & Biochemistry
University of Texas at Arlington
Kevin A. Schug is Professor and the Shimadzu Distinguished Professor of Analytical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). He is also Director of the Collaborative Laboratories for Environmental Analysis and Remediation (CLEAR) at UTA. He received his B.S. degree in Chemistry in 1998 from the College of William and Mary, and his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from Virginia Tech in 2002 under the direction of Prof. Harold M. McNair. From 2003-2005, he performed post-doctoral research at the University of Vienna in Austria with Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Lindner. Since joining UTA in 2005, his research has been focused on the theory and application of separation science and mass spectrometry for solving a variety of analytical and physical chemistry problems, in the fields of environmental, pharmaceutical, biological, and energy research. He has over 190 peer-reviewed publications and over 600 presentations, posters, and invited talks to his group’s credit. He has been the primary mentor and research advisor to more than 30 graduate and 60 undergraduate students. Dr. Schug has received several research awards, including the 2009 Emerging Leader Award in Chromatography by LCGC Magazine and the 2013 American Chemical Society Division of Analytical Chemistry Young Investigator in Separation Science Award. Very recently, he was named to 2019 The Analytical Scientist’s Top 100 Power List of the best analytical chemists in the world. For his teaching, he received the 2014 University of Texas System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award and in 2017, was awarded the J. Calvin Giddings Award for Excellence in Analytical Chemistry Education by the American Chemical Society. He is a Fellow of both the University of Texas System’s and U.T. Arlington’s Academy Of Distinguished Teachers.

Lummus Technology
Leon de Bruyn is the President and Chief Executive Officer for Lummus Technology, where he is responsible for the strategic direction of the company and leading all aspects Lummus’ global performance. He also serves on the board of directors of Chevron Lummus Global, a joint venture between Chevron and Lummus.
Mr. de Bruyn joined Lummus in 1993. During this career with the company, he has built executive experience in the downstream refining and petrochemicals industry, through technology development and licensing, catalyst supply and engineering, procurement and construction activities.
Prior to his current role as CEO, Mr. de Bruyn led the transformation of the Lummus Technology business from a subsidiary of McDermott International to a standalone company under the ownership of The Chatterjee Group and Rhône Capital.
Previously, Mr. de Bruyn was Managing Director of Chevron Lummus Global, a joint venture with Chevron, where he was responsible for the company strategy, P&L, sales and operations for the supply of technologies, engineering services and catalysts to refineries.
Mr. de Bruyn holds a master’s degree in business administration from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, and a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Eindhoven University for Technology in The Netherlands. He has lived and worked in eight countries.
