Abstract:
The application of Pyrolysis-GC-MS and EGA-MS for advanced characterization and investigation of polymer degradation will be discussed. Product-Specific Kinetic (PSK) analysis is a recently developed methodology that provides kinetic information for the formation of individual degradation products. PSK can provide insight into several facets of polymer degradation from product specific activation energies, identification of competing formation mechanisms, and, more recently, information of polymer network structural arrangements. In this presentation, the application of PSK analysis on epoxy thermosets will be discussed. In addition, recent developments and preliminary results of in-situ Raman-EGA-MS of pyrolysis processes will be presented.
