Product Specialist
Shimadzu Scientific Instruments

Joel Langford is a X-ray spectroscopy product specialist at Shimadzu Scientific Instruments. Before joining Shimadzu in 2018, Joel was a graduate student at University of California, Irvine, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. At Lawrence Berkeley, Joel's research focused on using synchrotron X-ray radiation to characterize carbon dioxide uptake in aqueous solutions of hexylamine, which is a promising method for carbon sequestration. Joel also worked at the Desert Research Institute where he used a variety of analytical methods to characterize atmospherically relevant samples. At Shimadzu, Joel concentrates his time on developing applications for X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, and electron probe micro analysis. He also works with customers on their own method development. Some of the industries Joel has worked with include pharmaceutical, petroleum, original equipment manufacturers, agriculture, and academia.
