Unlocking Oil Laboratory Capacity: A Workflow-First Approach to Automation

Abstract:
Oil laboratories with increasing volumes often look first to expanding analytical capacity, but bottlenecks may occur throughout the workflow. This presentation examines how automating sample handling, preparation, and introduction can eliminate repetitive tasks, release labor capacity for higher-value work, improve consistency, and increase instrument utilization. It will also show how adaptive technology responds to viscosity in real time, processing routine samples quickly while adding time only for difficult samples. Using oil laboratory workflows, attendees will learn to identify constraints, quantify annual capacity released, compare automation strategies, and align workflow improvements with instrumentation investments to achieve greater throughput and data quality.
