Low temperature viscosity is a critical performance parameter for jet fuel, directly impacting engine startability and fuel system operation at altitude. ASTM D7042 offers a modern, simplified approach to viscosity and density measurement using stabinger viscometer technology — replacing traditional multi-bath capillary methods with a single automated instrument.
Attendees will learn how D7042 technology performs simultaneous viscosity and density determination across a wide temperature range, including the -40C and -60C temperatures relevant to jet fuel specifications. The session will cover instrument operating principles, sample handling considerations, and best practices for calibration and verification, along with how automation reduces analysis time compared to conventional capillary methods.
