Abstract:

This poster presents the use of hydrogen (Hâ‚‚) as a carrier gas in GC×GC-ToFMS to analyze the volatile compound profiles of whiskies. The method, tested on 11 whiskies from 6 countries , yields rich, reproducible, and sufficiently discriminating aromatic profiles to clearly differentiate samples. It also allows for the identification of chemical markers associated with sensory characteristics such as smoky, fruity, floral, or woody notes . The study concludes that hydrogen is an efficient, practical, and suitable alternative for complex aromatic analyses , while reducing reliance on helium
