Abstract:
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) present significant analytical challenges due to their chemical diversity, low regulatory limits, and emerging concern over ultrashort-chain compounds. This work highlights the development of LC-MS/MS methods that provide sensitive, low-part-per-trillion quantification of 22 PFAS analytes using a simplified large-volume injection approach that reduces sample preparation requirements. In addition, chromatographic conditions were evaluated to improve the measurement of ultrashort-chain PFAS, including trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) and triflic acid. The resulting workflow expands analytical coverage from conventional PFAS to highly polar ultrashort-chain species, providing a versatile platform for current and future PFAS monitoring needs.
