Direct Multi-Element Analysis of Bioethanol by ICP-OES for Reliable Fuel Quality Control

Abstract:
Bioethanol quality control requires sensitive determination of elemental contaminants that can affect fuel stability, engine performance, and emissions systems. A robust ICP-OES method was developed for direct analysis of 25 elements in ethanol without sample dilution or matrix conversion. A Peltier-cooled spray chamber reduced solvent loading and enabled stable plasma operation during continuous ethanol aspiration. The method demonstrated excellent linearity, low method detection limits, and recoveries of 90–110% with <5% RSD. Long-term stability was confirmed through periodic quality-control measurements and internal-standard monitoring, demonstrating reliable performance for extended analytical sequences and suitability for routine, high-throughput bioethanol quality control.
