Abstract:

Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) in soil were analyzed using gas chromatography coupled to Orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry at 60,000 resolving power. Samples were prepared following EPA Method 1613 extraction and cleanup workflows, while Chromeleon CDS supported automated acquisition, quantification, and reporting. The method demonstrated reliable detection at 10–15 fg on-column, acceptable calibration and response-factor performance, and soil-spike precision below 7% RSD for 2,3,7,8-TCDD. Ion-ratio confirmation was achieved for most target congeners. Results show that GC–Orbitrap HRMS can meet EPA Method 1613 requirements for sensitive, confident routine PCDD/F analysis in soil.
