TCDs Under Pressure

Abstract:
It has been observed that if back pressure is applied to the exit line of a TCD (Thermal Conductivity Detector) cell, the sensitivity is lower and the background signal can shift towards zero when compared to having no additional back pressure on the exit line. A study was set up to explore the extent of this effect when determining permanent atmospheric gases in a matrix via headspace/GC with TCD analysis on a mole sieve PLOT column.
