Abstract:
Recovered carbon black (rCB), produced from end-of-life tire pyrolysis, is increasingly used as a sustainable alternative to virgin carbon black. Routine characterization typically requires multiple test methods, including ASTM D1509 for moisture, ASTM D8474 for compositional analysis, and ASTM D8621 for ash, resulting in increased laboratory time and sample handling.
This study evaluates TGA as a single technique for the simultaneous determination of moisture, organic residue, carbon content, and ash in rCB. Results obtained by TGA were compared with values generated using ASTM methods, accordingly.
