Abstract:
As plastic recycling expands, understanding the composition and quality of waste and recycled materials is increasingly important. Pyrolysis and thermal desorption-GC/MS provide complementary approaches for characterizing complex plastic samples, revealing polymer composition, additives, contaminants, and other components that can influence recycling and reuse.
This seminar will introduce micro-furnace pyrolysis and thermal desorption coupled with modern mass spectrometry, followed by real-world applications involving household LDPE waste, sorted recyclable plastics, and brominated flame retardants.
Examples will demonstrate analytical workflows for evaluating recycled materials and identifying components that may affect quality, performance, and regulatory compliance.
