A Fast, Automated ASTM D8534 Approach for Trace Peroxide Determination in Petrochemical Streams

Abstract:
Peroxide contamination can compromise product quality, reduce fuel octane rating, and create significant safety risks during production, storage, and transport. Da Vinci Laboratory Solutions developed the Fast Peroxide Analyzer (FPA), a fully automated ASTM D8534 solution for rapid and precise peroxide determination.
The system combines flow injection analysis with optimized reaction control and UV detection to quantify peroxide content in less than five minutes, while minimizing operator exposure and sample handling. Application studies demonstrate that the FPA system improves repeatability, enhances detection limits, and shortens the analysis time compared with conventional methods such as ASTM D2340 and E299.
