Abstract:
Pyrolysis-GC/MS is a versatile technique for the characterization of polymers and other organic materials. The technique offers several complementary analytical methods, each designed to obtain different information from a sample. This training course presents a step-by-step decision guide to help participants select the appropriate pyrolysis-GC/MS method based on the analytical information needed. Topics include evolved gas analysis, thermal desorption, polymer identification, additive analysis, thermal degradation, and multi-step characterization strategies. Practical considerations for commercially available pyrolysis interfaces will also be discussed, along with application examples demonstrating how different pyrolysis-GC/MS methods work together to provide comprehensive material characterization.
