Abstract:
ACS Brazosport is a small local section of the American Chemical Society operating out of the Freeport, Lake Jackson and Pearland, Texas area. We are comprised of members from the industry and well as a student chapter with members from local community. Our mission is to raise awareness of Science in the local community and help students prosper in the STEM fields. We organize several outreach events throughout the year including Science demostrations at local libraries, Earth day activities at local schools, help students participate in Chemistry olympiad, organize resume workshops, career guidance panels for community colleges stepping into an industrial career and organize lab tours at local industries. ACS has been partnering with GCC for the last 2 years to bring community college students to the Gulf coast conference so that they can experience a technical conference during their college career and have an opportunity to meet technical experts of their field (Thanks so much GCC organizers for letting this happen). We also try to motivate and encourage local Teachers and insutrial Technicians by awarding them awards for their contribution to Science and Technology. Some of our efforts will be highlighted in our poster.
