Abstract:
At the end of 2023, the European Chemicals Agency classified cumene (aka isopropylbenzene) as a Class 1B carcinogen. All fuel products that contain at least 0.1% m/m cumene must now be labeled as carcinogenic. To verify compliance, refiners and distributors need an analytical method with suitable precision from 0.01-1% m/m; however, only DHA (ASTM D6729) has published precision for cumene but only for products up to 225°C. ASTM D8267 is well-suited for the desired BP range and can speciate cumene without any modification to the existing method. In this presentation we will demonstrate D8267’s ability to quickly, accurately, and precisely report cumene in jet-range products.
