Abstract:
A gas chromatograph (GC) coupled to a Sulfur Chemiluminescence Detector (SCD) is an ideal instrument for the identification and quantification of volatile sulfur compounds in light petroleum liquids, according to ASTM D5623. The Agilent 8890 GC with the 8355 SCD provides a linear and equimolar response to sulfur-containing compounds. This study demonstrates the expected performance for the examined 19 discrete sulfur compounds containing 1,2, and 3 sulfur atoms per compound. Additionally, equimolarity was demonstrated in three solvent matrices at low ppm levels on both the standard SCD and the combined flame ionization detector (FID) SCD instruments.
