Abstract:
Biodiesel is a fuel made from renewable bio sources such as vegetable oils. Advantages of biodiesel usage include reduction of emissions, namely carbon monoxide and particulates. While these benefits are attractive, biodiesel can only be used in specialized engines. Therefore, analyzing FAME concentrations in diesel is critical for quality control and verification of blended biodiesel and fuel labeling. There are various EN and ASTM methods for analyzing FAME concetration in diesel. This talk will discuss the various methods used for analzying FAME via infrared spectroscopy and the benefits of each method.
