Abstract:

Lubricating oils are the lifeblood of oil-wetted machinery. In this study, ASTM D4951 method is demonstrated with Analytik Jena’s PlasmaQuant 9100 Elite, equipped with an organic sample introduction kit. Linear calibrations were obtained with correlation coefficients greater than 0.9999 for all elements. ASTM D4951 expects detectability in the low mg/kg range for most elements to be sufficient. The method detection limits (MDL) of all analytes are below 90 µg/kg. To evaluate the long-term stability, 50 quality control samples were analyzed continuously. For all the elements, the recovery of quality control standards was within ± 5 % of the expected value.
