Abstract:
The petrochemical revolution is already well underway, with petroleum naphtha playing a vital role as the gateway to several of the key chemical building blocks. Of the five major petroleum manufactured products, only naphtha is predicted by analysts to significantly grow its global demand by 2050. This demand coupled with the tight tolerances required for petrochemical feedstocks will shift the focus of production into new areas of control, both in the laboratory and in process. UV-fluorescence and chemiluminescence are methods that are well suited to the need to control sulfur and nitrogen, and can be scaled from the laboratory to the process with confidence.
