Abstract:

This application will focus on the methodology to run wear metals and additives in oils using a high throughput valving system and an autosampler designed to run oils.  Methodology used an Agilent 5900 ICP and a Cetac 7400 oil autosampler.  Application will include instrument setup and optimization, standard and sample preparation, quantitation, and evaluation of QC’s and NIST traceable knowns.   180 field oil samples were run for this evaluation including: new and used engine oils, transmission oils, pump drive oils, gear box oils, front and rear differential fluids, and synthetics.  Most oils were SAE 15W-40 and SAE 80W-90 fluids as well as Extreme Pressure (EP) fluids.
