Abstract:
High Temperature Simulated Distillation has one of the most challenging matrices with compounds from C4 (or below) to asphaltenes. The entire sample is injected on column, and the GC oven programs from -20 oC to 425 oC. These create wear on the column. Adaptations to the GC and column technology have evolved.
This presentation will discuss the adaptation used, how they are beneficial, and tricks that can be applied to keep the system “up and running” with repeatable results.
ASTM Method D7900 will also be examined. D7900 gives a more accurate determination of C1 to C9 portion of the crude analysis. When merged with D7169, gives a more accurate boiling point distribution.
