Abstract:
A combination of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS), collision-induced dissociation (CID), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and size exclusion chromatography were used to examine the end-group and architectural distributions within a model but-3-en-1-yl(phenyl)phosphine (BPP) functionalized poly(ethylene-co-propylene) (EP), which had been synthesized using a dual-headed chain shuttling agent (DHCSA). This study will highlight several interesting findings: (i) CID fragmentation results were used to build general fragmentation models; (ii) these models provided insight into the EP polymer chemical connectivity, end-groups, and incorporation of the DHCSA; and (iii) lastly, these results will be used to explain the observed EP polymer distributions.
