Abstract:
HORIBA has developed a new Process Laser Gas Analyzer (PLGA) using a unique technology called IRLAM with Quantum Cascade laser (QCL) as the light source. The QCL’s and IRLAM algorithms are optimized for each application. The analyzer houses up to six lasers in one enclosure for dedicated application. For Ethylene production it exhibits high sensitivity for Acetylene (C2H2), Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) measurements. Field trials were conducted over six months to determine the performance of the analyzer when compared with general QCL analyzer and gas chromatographs (GC) measuring the same hydrocarbon. The analyzer achieved high stability performance for each laser and was able to rapid detect any upset condition. The PLGA-1000, with IRLAM, performs this critical C2H2 measurement both at the C2 Splitter and the Acetylene converter locations.
