Abstract:

Elemental analysis of crude oil is essential for quality control, equipment condition monitoring, waste recycling, and post-processing in the oil production process.  ICP-OES provides advantages for elemental analysis of oil samples, such as speed and robustness, and for these reasons it’s a recommended technique for measuring a range of oil types using standard procedures issued by ASTM International.  In this poster, the performance of ICP-OES for analysis of crude oil and other petrochemical samples, following ASTM Methods D7691 and D5708, is described. Fast analysis for all the target analytes was achieved using ICP-OES coupled with a dedicated oil autosampler system.
