Abstract:
Choosing the right detector for your GC application often involves making tradeoffs between sensitivity, the ability to analyze a broad range of compounds (universal detection), selectivity, and ease-of-use. Detectors like the FID are recognize as being sensitive to most organic compounds and easy-to-use. However it is not universal and it does not provide selectivity. TCD detectors by contrast are considered universal and are also easy to use but are not as sensitive as other detectors. MS detectors are extremely sensitive and selective but are considered easy-to-use for routine analysis.
This talk provides an overview of a new multi-channel vacuum ultraviolet absorbance detector, LUMA™, that is sensitive to very low levels, universal in that nearly every compound absorbs, provides selectivity, is easy-to-use, and flexible with a low cost-of-ownership.
