Abstract:

Polymer Processing Additives (PPA) are fluoropolymer compounds that are commonly used in plastics manufacturing to improve the quality of extruded products such as films, pipes, cables, and fibers. Adding the right concentration of PPA is important so that process efficiency and throughput is optimized without the unnecessary expense or waste of adding too much of the costly additive. Combustion ion chromatography (CIC), which measures total fluorine in solid samples, has previously been employed for this analysis.. In this paper, a new dedicated fluorine analyzer technology, which features many improvements over traditional CIC, is presented for measuring PPA additives in polymers.
