Abstract:
The ‘quality’ of steam and hot water used in refineries is a major concern to users. Processing is very expensive, and contamination may lead to corrosion in pipes, boilers, and heat exchangers, allowing hydrocarbon leaks into the return condensate. The water purity should be continuously monitored to avoid damage. An on-line TOC (Total Organic Carbon) analyzer is the desired technology and is superior to an oil-in-water analyzer in that it captures all organics, not just those belonging to oil groups.
