Abstract:

Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) is widely used throughout industry for multi-element analysis due to its robustness, speed, dynamic range, and sensitivity. Of particular importance for the petrochemical industry is the robustness of the analytical set-up, while achieving accurate results, to analyze high matrix samples such as crude oils.

In this presentation, a robust method for the analysis of 23 elements in crude oil samples by ICP-OES in accordance with ASTM D5708/D7691 is described.  Accuracy was demonstrated by analyzing crude oil NIST SRM 1084a and robustness was assessed by the continuous analysis of oil samples over 5 hours.
