Abstract:
Organic chloride contamination in crude oil can cause corrosive hydrochloric formation. The source of the organic chloride can be from chlorinated solvents and additives used in crude oil production, transportation, and storage tanks. Chemicals used in enhanced oil recovery processes can also contain or form organic chlorides. Current quantitation of organic involves distillation of a naphtha cut, followed by a washing of the sample to remove hydrogen sulfide and salts and then analysis. Using a GC with XSD detector will eliminate the need for distillation and sample washing. Reducing labor, sample handling and the chance of false positive by olefin production (subsequent reaction) during distillation.
