Abstract:
Understanding the metals content of lubricating oils are critical to assessing and monitoring the condition of both the oil and engine. Here, we present trace metals data acquired using a Shimadzu ICP-9820 in compliance with ASTM D5185 for engine oils. The vertical orientation of the torch minimizes the build-up of carbon-based soot, allowing for samples to be analyzed without the introduction of a stream of oxygen. The Shimadzu ICPE-9820 in conjunction with an organic sample introduction kit and ICPE solution software provides excellent precision, accuracy, and tolerance to meet and exceed compliance with regulations on trace metals in lubricating oils.
