Abstract:

A portable fuel property analyzer (PFPA) was developed with the support and cooperation of the United States Military by Real Time Analyzers Inc., and is commercially available.  The PFPA provides rapid fuel analysis anywhere it’s needed and uses near infrared spectroscopy combined with advanced multivariate analysis to predict key fuel properties for gasoline, jet and diesel fuels.  The properties were developed and validated according to ASTM D8321.   Spectroscopic measurements with ASTM standard test method values of ~800 fuels from around the world were used to calibrate instruments validate equations then determine predicted property values of unknown fuel samples.
