Abstract:
Aluminum oxide sensors consist of a hygroscopic layer of aluminum oxide that adsorbs or releases water molecules within its pores. The electrical capacitance of the aluminum oxide layer changes as with changes in the surrounding water vapor pressure. Analytical performance is a function of the geometry of the layer and its pore size. Advancements in thin film technology and manufacturing continue to improve the performance (range, accuracy, and linearity) of aluminum oxide sensors. An impartial review of film and pore thickness to performance will be discussed. Going beyond the laboratory, requires a sample system designed for these probes. Various approaches and trade-off will also be discussed.
