Abstract:
Manufacturers use nylon in various applications, such as textile, electronics, automotive, engineering plastics, and fibers. The formulation details of nylon are often not known to the manufacturers. Companies in later stages in the supply chain have even less information on components. Therefore, the same part number at a point in the supply chain can result in a polymer part that is not made with the same formulation, yet the apparent polymer properties may seem to be equivalent. After usage, a failure analysis may be required to determine the chemical details. In this work, Pyrolysis-GC/MS characterizes and compares two lots that seem similar.
