2024 - Poulami Dutta
Associate Research Scientist
Dow
Poulami was born in Kolkata, India and completed her Bachelor’s in Chemistry from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata in 2008. She then moved to Delhi to pursue her Master’s in Physical chemistry from Indian Institute of Delhi. She obtained her Masters in 2010 and started working as a Research Associate in the field of molecular spectroscopy; investigating photophysical behavior of biological probes in green solvents for artificial photosynthesis and bio-sensing applications. She then decided to move to USA to obtain here PhD and joined Michigan State University in 2011 as a PhD candidate in Inorganic Chemistry. Her research work focused on designing methodologies to prepare diverse semiconductor quantum dots and perovskite nanomaterials with unique properties to increase versatility and performance of solar cells and for information storage and bio-imaging applications. She obtained her PhD in 2016 and joined Dow’s Analytical Technology Center in Freeport, Texas. She currently works as an Associate Research Scientist in the Inorganic Materials Characterization group in Analytical Science, Core R&D. In her current role, Poulami leads diverse projects using advanced analytical techniques such as X-Ray Fluorescence, Diffraction and Absorption to provide spectroscopic characterization of new and existing product offerings for different business functions including Polyolefin, Polyurethane, Hydrocarbons, Specialty Plastics and Packaging, Silicones and Oil, Gas & Mining. She has developed a wide range of new X-ray capabilities for analysis of catalysts, raw materials, and final products in support of Dow’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations at Texas and Louisiana in North America as well as the global sites including Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, and South America. She serves on the ACS Brazosport local section for scientific outreach and as a technical committee member of the Gulf Coast Conference and Denver X-ray Conference. She is a champion for diversity and inclusion efforts at Dow. Poulami lives in Pearland, TX with her husband and two kids. In her free time, she loves to garden, keep her kids happy (and busy) with art and craft, cook authentic Indian cuisines and travel to see new places and explore new cultures.
