Abstract:

A dedicated robotic autosampler is used to fully automate VOC analysis in water and soil by GC-MS. The automated workflow includes calibration standards dilution and ISTD/surrogates addition before headspace analysis, maintaining the overlapping of incubation times for each sample. Reliable quantitative analysis of drinking and surface water was achieved with R² > 0.990, RRF %RSD < 20%, MDLs < 0.17 ng/mL, and inter-day reproducibility within 20% over six days. The automated workflow with HS analysis just after the ISTD/surrogates addition preserve sample integrity, reduces variability, and eliminates manual handling, thus saving labor time, preventing cross-contamination, and maximizing lab productivity.
