Abstract:

Flare compliance can be challenging. An optimal flare plan depends on strategically matching technology and procedures to each of the regulatory requirements that apply. Based on the location of the plant and the EPA regulatory category, the analyzer portion of the flare plan will require one or more of several measurements, including Net Heating Value (aka. BTU value), H2S, Total Sulfur, hydrogen, and even speciated hydrocarbons for HRVOC. This talk will review three of the leading solutions for flare gas analysis: mass spectrometers, calorimeters, and total sulfur analyzers. We’ll look at data and the configuration details important to successful flare gas analysis, and address how other sites are using these analyzers to prepare for the EMACT and MONMACT deadlines coming up in 2023.
