The undesired presence of oxygenated hydrocarbons in certain process feeds can seriously affect catalyst life and performance. To remove oxygenates, data is needed on which ones are present and at what levels. A new UOP method is being written to provide this data. Using state-of-the-art gas chromatographic instrumentation and column technology, alcohols through C5, and carbonyls and ethers through C6, have been determined down to very low levels in a variety of liquid sample types.
