Research Technician - FTC07-0082
Research Technician will provide entry-level hands on Research and Development technical support in a laboratory environment to evaluate ideas, projects and new technologies being considered for development. Under the direction of the Research Team Leader the Research Technician will build pilot and laboratory scale testing units, do testing and conduct experiments, maintain a laboratory notebook, do analysis and prepare summary data reports.

Research Technician will provide technical support for research projects. With guidance from research leader, set up experimental equipment needed to conduct research programs. With limited supervision, carry out experiments, collect data, analyze samples, organize and provide preliminary analysis of results, and recommend modifications as needed. Maintain the supply of equipment and other items used in experimental studies. Provide/participate in safety reviews, inspections, Safe Operating Procedures (SafOP's) and Job Work Instructions (JWI's), as needed, and maintain diligence in keeping a safe and clean laboratory. Research Technician will report to the Research Team Leader.

Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelors degree in science field
  • Science field (i.e. chemistry, biology, physics, etc.)
  • Must be willing to occasionally work outside regular hours
  • Ability to follow program direction while still thinking independently.
Qualifications Desired:
  • Prior laboratory or research and development experience would be a plus

  • Experience functioning on teams

Functional Requirements:
  • Set up and operate pilot plant and laboratory scale equipment.
  • Collect experimental data following proper laboratory notebook procedures.
  • Develop and submit SafOP's for pilot plant processes and lab scale experiments.
  • Maintain laboratory and pilot equipment and work areas in a safe and clean condition.
  • Support sampling of commercial units as needed.
  • Prepare experimental data for evaluation.
  • Write-up experimental data as required.
  • Serve on facility teams in support of maintaining a safe work environment.

Research Engineer or Sr. Research Engineer - FTC07-0069
Research Engineer will provide project leadership and direct hands-on technical support for assigned research projects. This includes executing development project according to Merichem Stage-Gate Process. Develop work plans and experimental programs. Conduct literature and intellectual property searches. Oversee design, assembly and operation of laboratory equipment, ensure high quality data were obtained, interpret the results of experiments, and communicate them through formal reports. Function within established safety and chemical hygiene programs. Supervise laboratory technicians when assigned. Qualifications Required:
  • Educated in Chemical Engineering
  • Master's degree with 5 yrs of industrial experience or PhD with industrial research experience
  • Postdoctoral experience would be a plus (not required)

Senior Analytical Chemist, Biofuels and Green Chemicals Analysis

This is an exempt position.

Job Description:
Senior scientist in charge of method development and analysis of biofuels and green chemical products. Duties will include development and execution of complex analyses, developing new methods, as well as supervision of other analytical chemists in support of the research division of ADM. The position will involve development and application of sophisticated instrumental methods utilizing HPLC, GC, ICP, AA, GC/MS, LC/MS, FTIR, automated wet chemistry analyses, high throughput screening and other techniques.

Job Requirements:
Previous experience in the analysis of petroleum fuels, biofuels, organic chemicals or industrial fermentations is strongly preferred. Some relevant background is required to be considered for the position. The ideal candidate will possess a Ph. D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or Organic Chemistry. Candidates with MS or BS degrees and extensive laboratory experience will also be considered. Experience with GC-MS, LC-MS-MS, advanced FTIR techniques, as well as HPLC, GC and elemental analysis preferred. Successful candidates must have the ability to work independently and interact well with people. Position requires standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time.

Analytical Chemist

ATMI is seeking an Analytical Chemist with broad based knowledge of analytical chemistry and techniques applied to the characterization of complex mixtures. This knowledge is required to develop analytical methods, provide support to the Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality groups via QC analysis, and serve as the technical experts to better serve our customers. This position is located at ATMI's Burnet, Texas facility and reports directly to the Manager of the Analytical Lab. This opportunity allows the right person to expand their technical skill set and participate on a dynamic team in a growing organization.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Conducts routine analysis of raw materials and finished goods to ensure QC
  • Drives for continuous improvement of existing testing methods. Identifies appropriate equipment to develop processes and methods as solutions of technical problems
  • Identifies and implements proper SPC controls for analytical instrumentation
  • Maintains SQC charts for new and existing raw materials and finished goods
  • Confers with process engineers, development scientists, and manufacturing personnel regarding results and research, prepares technical reports and presentations to promote learning
  • Executes validation protocols for test methods and supports results with technical development, verification and validation reports
  • Maintains instrumentation and develops procedures for product testing purposes
  • Develops and validates analytical methods for raw materials and finished goods
  • Tests and analyzes R&D samples, manufactured materials, and in-process samples when needed
  • Provides technical support for the Analytical Services group, including instrument troubleshooting and establishing preventative maintenance protocols
  • Scrutinizes and improves existing methods, including training QC Analysts on new methods
  • Serves as the technical liaison to driving improvements to ATMI's supplier laboratories. Activities may include consulting, running verification testing of contract manufacturer analysis on production lots and assists contract manufacturer in troubleshooting for any quality related issues.
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in chemistry with 2-5 years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • General lab instrument (HPLC, IC, GC, ICP-MS, ICP-AES) operations and maintenance experience is required
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills are a must
  • Considerable expertise in manipulating data with MS Excel and/or working with statistical software
  • Basic knowledge of SPC/SQC and statistics including, control charting techniques, correlation analysis, Measurement system analysis (MSA), and Design of Experiments (DOE) is desired
  • Six-Sigma certification (Green, Brown, or Black belt) is a plus

Job Overview:
ATMI is seeking a Development Chemist with broad based knowledge of chemical blending and analytical development techniques as well as strong leadership capabilities to drive and achieve results. The ideal candidate will need to have experience developing high-volume manufacturing methods, incorporating large scale blending of complex multi-component mixtures, for semiconductor manufacturing cleaning processes (i.e. manufacturing scale-up activities). This position is located at the Burnet, Texas facility and reports directly to the manager of new product development.


Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform development activities for the purpose of scaling-up new products from R&D phase to high-volume production, in accordance with NPI stage-gate process/methodology;
  • Engage with R&D scientists and product managers to transfer new products from alpha phase to beta phase;
  • Establish manufacturing plan through partnership with engineering in order to roll-out new products globally;
  • Drive implementation of new innovative manufacturing technologies to reduce product cost and increase speed to market;
  • Execute project plans and NPI scorecard/deliverables to achieve projected milestones;
  • Document manufacturing work instructions and SOPs using ISO-9000 quality system guidelines;
  • Train manufacturing personnel as part of product release;
  • Support process transfer activities to global contract manufacturers;
  • Responsible for order fulfillment of new products during the development and scale up phase;
  • Work with supply chain group to ensure the availability of raw materials for product blending;
  • Perform chemistry blending in a skid or a high volume (1000-3000 gal) tank as well as fill blended products into packaging materials (bottles, drums or totes);
  • Ensure tests are performed by analytical lab (particles, assay, trace metals purity, etc.);
  • Produce labels and lab certificate of analysis (C of A) and coordinate product shipment;
  • Maintain 95+% on-time-delivery and zero safety incident metrics, with a continuous improvement mindset.
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor or Master's degree in chemistry;
  • 5+ years of experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and training;
  • Experience in chemical scale up (50-gal to 3000-gal) is essential;
  • Proven ability (knowledge and experience) in analytical chemistries (GC, GC-MS, HPLC, ICP, etc.);
  • Experience in blending and filtration processes for the chemical or semiconductor industry;
  • Able to lift up to 40-lbs;
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, project management, and lean manufacturing/product development are greatly desired.
